The natural world is a sustainer and creator of life. We do not believe that any living thing was created without the ability to continue the process of creation. In a very real way, the world is still creating itself. This ongoing creative process is one that we see as life giving to all, and one we want to contribute to in harmony with all of nature.
Our planet is in dire need of care, and many voices of the experts are weary of the direction we are headed. We do not believe that we are able to disconnect our passion for social justice from the issue of environmental stewardship. Too many times issues of injustice have been compartmentalized. We are proposing that the same root culture of dominance has contributed to human oppression and also environmental decay, which in turn contributes to all other social inequalities.
We practice this not only through the continued research of relevant sustainable practices within our organization, but through a lifestyle of simplicity practiced by our staff that permeates our lives individually and communally.
Note: We do not believe in education for the sake of only knowledge, but instead view education as a vehicle for transforming our selves and the world around us. What good is knowledge that does not turn into compassion? What good is language that is not accompanied by action? We hope that the educational journey we embark on together will not be in vain.
“Education either functions as an instrument which is used to facilitate integration of the younger generation into the logic of the present system and bring about conformity or it becomes the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world.” –Paulo Freire
